Walk in the Woods 2011
A Walk in the Woods Week 2011
Monday 3 – Sunday 9 October 2011: Celebrate the wonder of British woodlands by joining the Ramblers on a special woodland walk this autumn.

Woodlands are some of the most magical places to walk, full of diverse wildlife and history and particuarly spectacular as the leaves on the trees start to change colour.
Hundreds of walks will take place around the country during ‘A Walk in the Woods Week’ between 3-9 October, to celebrate these wonderful habitats and support the campaign to keep our woodlands open to public access.
All walks are free, fun and open to anyone and everyone, from toddlers to grandparents. Chosen and led by experienced Ramblers Walk Leaders, the walks will showcase British woodlands at their autumn best. Many walks will be short and family friendly, although there’ll be plenty of longer rambles for the seasoned hiker.
The event also links to Bosch Lawn & Garden’s British Tree Week, to help raise awareness of Britain’s native trees. While we all enjoy the beauty and pleasure of walking in woodland, how well can we identify British trees from imported species – and could we name the tree based on its leaf or seed? Bosch will be conducting research to test the nation on their tree trivia, identify gaps in our knowledge and help to educate Brits on how to spot our native varieties – and how to care for their own trees.
