Summoned by Bellows

October 18, 2012

One of the joys of Scotland in October is the sound of bellowing stags.

And we did hear some, albeit at a distance, as I shall describe in coming blogs.

In the Atholl Deer Forest

Surely there are few more unearthly sounds than stags bellowing, echoing across miles of moorland and mountain?I remember, several years ago, walking up from Kinlochleven towards the navvies graveyard at the Blackwater Dam.  A stag bellowing down in the glen, the weird echo seeming to make the very air vibrate.

It is one of the joys of Scotland – and you still have a little time if you want to get up there to hear a stag for yourself.

I especially love hearing them bellowing when I’m above them on a hill in the mist! 🙂
