On Gowbarrow Fell

May 26, 2013

A glorious walk today on Gowbarrow Fell overlooking Ullswater. Beautiful weather and everything pin-sharp clear.Gowbarrow Fell 017

Took the terrace path leading up from Aira Force, gradually winding up along the contours of the fell. Saw a slow worm, the first I’ve seen for some years, though I used to see them often when I was younger.

From Yew Crags walked around to the old shooting box, then up to the summit of the fell with such clear views all around. Returned via the cairn on Green Hill.Gowbarrow Fell 027

One of those days that are rare weather-wise in the Lake District.

I’ve only done Gowbarrow once – and never done the Terrace Walk on it – time I rectified that I think. Such great views from there – you certainly picked the right day for it!

Great photos! Yesterday, we were talking of a rambling holiday next year to the Lake District, so these photos provide inspiration! It will be my first time there, and my wife can’t speak highly enough of the Lakes.

Thought the terrace path particularly impressive.
