Ben Ledi – The Hill of God

July 24, 2013

My previous climb up Ben Ledi, that beautifully-shaped mountain that looms over Callander was on a day of thick cloud and driving rain. Callender 1 Ben Ledi 071

This time there was a heatwave. It didn’t stop there being a tad of playful dry cloud over the summit, but there were some excellent views, right down to Stirling Castle and the Wallace Monument and beyond that the Forth. Superb vistas of the surrounding Trossachs.

But it was scorchio on all but the last ridge, with its several false summits. Then we had the blessing of a breeze.

Ben Ledi is just a couple of hundred feet less than a Munro, but it is a beautiful shape, especially when seen from the little town below.

If you haven’t been up there, I commend it to you.Callender 1 Ben Ledi 061Callender 1 Ben Ledi 057
