Forests Sell Off

August 20, 2013

Worrying news from the Campaign for National Parks (Please put pressure on your MP):

Public Forest Estate sell-off?
Defra has recently reopened the debate on the future of our Public Forest Estate with the release of their thinking for a new Public Forest Estate Management Organisation.  Defra’s working assumptions give significant cause for concern, with a major focus on income generation, coupled with the freedom to dispose of assets and the ability to undertake non-forestry activities on the Estate, we have increasing doubts that it will successfully deliver wide ranging public and environmental benefits.  The plans are a “work in progress”, so we will be taking this and any future opportunities to shape the new organisation.  We are working on a sector wide response with Wildlife and Countryside Link, and with 30% of the Public Forest Estate in National Parks, voicing our specific concerns for National Parks through our own response.  For further information or if you have comments please contact Lisa Bainbridge at lisa@cnp.org.uk.
